CIAA gives kudos to Rams

The CIAA has handed out honors to Winston-Salem State University’s Kameron Smith (CIAA Offensive Back of the Week), Jameze Massey (Wide Receiver of the Week) and Connell Maynor (Head Coach of the Week) after the team’s impressive win over Concord University Saturday.

The Rams downed the Lions at Callaghan Stadium in Athens, W.Va., 30-22. It was WSSU’s first road game of the season.

QB Smith, a 6-1, 187-pound senior from Garner, helped lead the Rams to a win after passing for 229 yards and two touchdowns on 12 of 23 throwing with one interception.  In the win, Smith became WSSU’s all-time leading passer (4,647 yards), surpassing Tory Woodbury (1997-00; 4,493 yards).

His favorite target on the afternoon was Wide Receiver Massey, a 5-8, 170-pound senior from Monroe. He had a monster game for WSSU, with six catches for 173 yards and one touchdown, including a 73 yard score in the win.

Maynor is in his third season at the helm of the #8 ranked WSSU Rams. He is 23-3 in his tenure at Winston-Salem State University.

The Rams will travel to Cleveland, Ohio this week to take on the Morehouse Tigers in the Cleveland Football Classic from Cleveland Browns Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
