The Winston-Salem Urban League, 201 W. Fifth St., will hold a town hall meeting on Health Care and Medicare for seniors on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m.
Senior Health Care has been a hot button issue in this year’s Presidential Election Campaign that both President Barack Obama and Republican Candidate Mitt Romney have addressed. In that vein, the Urban League is sponsoring the town hall to provide valuable information about changes that affect seniors. Many seniors are not aware of the “no cost” programs that can enhance and preserve their quality of life. And in this tight economy, most importantly, these programs reduce the amount of “out-of-pocket” money seniors have to spend for medications.
Topics will include:
-The Low Income Subsidy (LIS) is a program that can reduce medication costs to $1.00 for generic medication and $2.00 for brand name medication.
-There are “no cost” Medicare Programs for seniors that entitle them to free generic medication.
- The Durable Medical Equipment program provides braces, strollers, wheelchairs, shoes, etc.
- There are also programs that help pay for the Medicare Part B premium.
The Urban League’s goal in sponsoring this town hall meeting is to equip seniors with the knowledge they need to make healthy and financially prudent decisions.
The community is invited to attend this meeting which will feature insurance and benefits professionals to provide the information and resources to empower seniors to live healthy lives.
