More than 40 events will be held during the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County’s Fifth Annual Six Days in November Festival, Tuesday, Nov. 13 – Sunday, Nov. 18.
A number of Arts Council-funded agencies will host events during the festival, including the Delta Arts Center, 2611 New Walkertown Road, which will host a prelude to its “Forty Years with Delta Fine Art” celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 14 with an auction of black art.
A preview and special offering of four signed Jonathan Green posters will be held in recognition of his support of Delta Fine Arts. Green is considered one of the most important painters of the southern experience.
Currently, Green, a native of Gardens Corner, S.C., serves on educational, civic, and museum boards in Florida and S.C. and is president/CEO of Jonathan Green Studios, Inc. and the Jonathan Green Art Collection Gallery, LLC in Naples, Fla. He is chairman of Jonathan Green Living Designs, LLP in Charleston, S.C.
The Festival will also offer opportunities to see “A Black Odyssey,” Reynolda House’s extraordinary exhibition by Romare Bearden.
Also on Nov. 14, Meridian Restaurant, 411 Marshall St, will welcome Chef/Author Marcelle Bienvenu, a colleague of food greats Emeril and Paul Prudomme who is often called the “Queen of Cajun Cooking.”
Six Days Coordinator Scott Sanders noted that there are four plays during Six Days – two at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, “Fantasticks” at Hanesbrands Theatre and the ever-popular “Fiddler on the Roof” at Twin City Stage on Coliseum. The Piedmont Craftsmen’s Fair is expected to draw thousands to Benton Convention Center Nov. 17-18. Associated Artists and Heather Evans Smith will turn a block of downtown Winston-Salem into a fascinating live photo shoot and the Sawtooth School is offering a gallery talk, workshops and a free open house during the week.
“We have a lot going on during Six Days, but we tried to keep it from being overwhelming. We have 20 different arts and cultural organizations involved, about 40 events and 100 opportunities to attend events,” said Sanders. “The events are as diverse as a day-long sculpture workshop at the Sawtooth School and Fall Dance at the School of the Arts. There is “An Evening with the Great Women Singers of the Jazz and Big Band Era” and an Aaron Copeland concert at Salem College. It’s truly a feast for the senses – a virtual smorgasbord.”
