Musical to pay tribute to  Richard Smallwood

The Celestial Voices choir will join other Hanes Memorial CME Church choirs for the church’s annual Black History Month musical on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m.

This year’s event honors the music of Richard Smallwood. The theme is “Total Praise.”

Rev. Jonathan Tennial will direct the choir. Justin Thomas is the choir’s organist, and Tabitha Faison is the drummer.  Carlotta Samuels-Fleming is the guest soloist. She will be joined by guest musicians Jimmy Moody (guitar), Leroy Roberson (bass guitar), Calvin Washington (saxophone) and Michael Hammonds (strings). Marsheeka Steward will praise dance.

Carmen Russell-Bonham will once again serve as mistress of ceremonies.

Hanes Memorial is located at 819 N. Highland Ave.  Rev. Clarence Cox III is the pastor.
