Church prepares lunches for Bethesda clients

rel, lunchesOn Friday, May 16, the Outreach Ministry of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church distributed more than 100 bag lunches to residents of the Bethesda Center, a homeless shelter on Patterson Avenue.

The nutritious lunches included turkey and cheese sandwiches, potato chips, oatmeal cookies, apples and bottled waters. Recipients, who also received a flyer about St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church and an invitation to attend worship services there, were genuinely appreciative of the gesture.

The Outreach Ministry’s effort was guided by Matthew 25:35, which instructs believers to feed the hungry. St. Stephen operates a Food Pantry and Clothing Closet that are open to the public on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.

St. Stephen, whose mission is “We are Family. We Care. We Share and We Work Together in LOVE,” is located at 5000 Noble St. Rev. James E. Cook is the church’s senior pastor.
