For Seniors Only: Don’t Call It A Job!
The Twin City Quarter’s Kim Davis, a catering sales manager and certified wedding specialist, says that the work that she does for the Quarter –which encompasses more than 100,000 square feet of event venues and opulent accommodations at the MC Benton Convention Center and Marriott and Embassy Suites hotels – is more like a calling.
Davis, who grew up in Winston-Salem, serves as at the TCQ, which she describes as “a one-stop shop” that customizes its services and leverages its considerable offerings to meet each client’s needs.
Over the course of her seven year tenure with the Quarter, Davis has helped countless patrons bring their visions to life, guiding them through the process of creating unforgettable events, from retirement parties and birthday bashes to weddings, conferences and reunions. Davis works with a vast team of Quarter employees to attend to every minute detail – from planning the menu and decorations to recommending trusted vendors – to help ensure the event’s execution is as smooth and flawless as possible. Ron Stephens, director of sales for the Twin City Quarter, said he regularly gets phone calls and emails from customers raving about the level of service Davis provides.
“She wants to do wonderful things for everyone,” he said. “She wants to make sure that all of her events are successful, and that we do everything we can to make sure that the client’s happy.”

“That’s why I’m in the job that I’m in, because I like to see people happy,” she said. “…Seeing the end product, not just the beauty of the event, but the smiles on everybody’s faces – to see people happy and celebrating and enjoying their family and friends – that makes it all worthwhile. That kind of validates
what I do.”
Davis says senior citizens are often at the helm of the events she plans. Golden anniversary celebrations are among her favorite occasions to witness.
“The anniversary ones are always very special, because they mean so much to each other,” she said. “It’s different from a wedding because they are just staring out. When you at an anniversary party, it’s like they’re falling in love all over again, and I just think that’s so special.”
Having spent her formative years in the Twin City has given Davis a feel for its unique attributes and an innate sense of what her clients are looking for when they come through her door.
“I’m one of the few that are in this office that actually have roots in Winston. I know probably more about my clients than they know about themselves,” she quipped, adding, “It helps me just engaged and have something in common with them. I find that a lot of people I have a bond with … before we even start the whole process, which makes them feel comfortable, knowing they have someone they can come to that they can trust. They know I have their best interests at heart.”
When Davis, an alumna of Clark Atlanta University, started with the Quarter in 2007, the branding of the three distinct facilities under one name was a relatively new concept.
“They were very fresh and new when I got here,” related the 33 year-old. “I didn’t even know what Twin City Quarter was until I came here for my job interview.”
Davis started out as an administrative assistant, but it wasn’t long before her flair for customer service and sales caught the attention of her supervisors. She quickly moved up the ranks, from administrative assistant to event planner, before taking her current post. Stephens says Davis has become an invaluable member of the Twin City Quarter team.
“Kim is a real asset to our company, and she’s also a tremendous asset to her clients,” he declared. “She has that bubbling personality that you just can’t teach. She’s outgoing, she’s vivacious and she’s got that Southern charm that just makes things nicer for everybody.”
