It’s no secret that there is a widening wealth gap between black and white households and a major contributing factor in the wealth gap is the lack of African American participation in the stock market.

But change is coming.

According to an article published by CNBC earlier this year, a 2017 market research reports shows about 67% of African Americans with income of at least $50,000 have money invested in stocks or stock mutual funds. That compares with 60% in 2010 and 57% in 1998.

Here in Winston-Salem, a local man is looking to educate the community on how stocks work and help to close the wealth gap between blacks and whites with his crash course called Stock Investing 101.

The course, which will be hosted by Shareef Walker and SSWalker Enterprises Inc., will cover several important topics including: how the stock market works, how to purchase stocks, brokerage accounts, and much more.

Stock Investing 101 will be held on Sunday, July 14, 1 p.m. at 4680-C Brownsboro Road. Cost for the event is $50 per person. Food and drinks will be provided. For more information, text #STOCKINFO TO 336-210-2619.
