Soon the gym at the William C. Sims Sr. Neighborhood Center will be renamed to honor a living legend and longtime Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department employee Ben Piggott.

During the halftime show at the 2019 CIAA basketball tournament, Jacqie McWilliams presented Livingstone College alumnus Ben Piggott and Elizabeth City State University alumnus Robert Chadwick with awards for assisting hundreds of boys and girls to get exposed to college life through their CIAA Ball Boy and Ball Girl program.
On the weekend of Friday, July 13, citizens gathered at Happy Hill Park and the William C. Sims Sr. Community Center to celebrate the rich history of the Happy Hill community.

The Peace Toys for War Toys Exchange Program was started in 1992 by Ben Piggott. It was created as a result of the violent death of his brother Kermit, who was killed in November 1991.
On Nov. 30, Piggott will hang up his whistle and keys and retire as senior supervisor of the Carl H. Russell Sr. Community Center.
Following the stage production of “The Legend of Buster Neal”, more than three dozen men sat down to discuss the issues facing young black men.
